Twitter Introduces a New Look for Users

In 2016, Twitter undertook a project to better understand the world's perception of their platform. Today, having taken on board the feedback, suggestions and creative ideas, they have rejuvenated their apps to be lighter, faster and easier to use.

Twitter have implemented a numerous of changes which they’ll be rolling out over the coming days and weeks to platforms including twitter.com, Twitter for iOS, Twitter for Android, TweetDeck and Twitter Lite. The refreshed look includes the following changes:

  • Collating the profile, additional accounts, settings and privacy all into a single place, allowing for easier management.
  • A new side-navigation menu and fewer tabs at the bottom means less clutter and easier browsing.
  • Users on iOS now have links open with Safari’s viewer, allowing for easier access to accounts on websites that users are already signed into.
  • A refinement to their typography, allowing it to be more consistent. This means bolder headlines giving more focus on what’s happening.
  • Profile photos are now round, making it clearer to see who's saying what.
  • Icons have been changed to be more recognisable. Some users thought the reply icon -an arrow - meant ‘delete’ or even ‘go-back’. This has now been replaced with a ‘Speech bubble’ to endorse a more friendly and bubbly approach.
  • Tweets update instantly with reply, retweet and like which counts so you can see conversations as they’re happening – live

Change is always controversial, and with a userbase as vocal as Twitter's, it will be interesting to see how this update is received in the coming weeks. We'll be back with an in-depth analysis of this update in the coming weeks so keep an eye on our blog for updates!
