Reimagining a Theatre Venue's seasonal “What’s On” guide

Cast is Doncaster’s contemporary theatre venue, presenting an eclectic programme of performance, participation and community engagement.

Ahead of its 2020 season, audience surveys indicated that the existing “What’s On” guide contained too much text and that key event information was difficult to navigate. The challenge was to retain the richness of the programme while introducing greater clarity and accessibility.

Drawing on survey insights and previous editions, we developed a refreshed editorial approach that placed imagery at the forefront and simplified the hierarchy of information. A revised A5 format provided consistency across layouts, while colour-coded categories and prioritised ticket details made browsing more intuitive.

The result was a guide that felt lighter, clearer and more aligned with audience expectations, supporting Cast’s ambition to make its diverse programme accessible to all.

As an ongoing creative partner, we continue to refine and produce seasonal editions, ensuring the publication evolves alongside the theatre’s programme and community. A considered redesign shaped by audience insight.
