New Brand and Online presence for the new British Steel

British Steel’s long awaited new logo, was unveiled at the former Tata Steelworks in Scunthorpe on 1st June.

Two agencies were appointed to design the brand and develop the online and digital presence respectively. Ruddocks was appointed to create the new brand while Doncaster-based creative agency Moirae, was awarded the contract to develop the company’s website, intranet and social media platform. and digital presence.

David Plant, Managing Director of Moirae said: “As the brand unfolded we had to work closely with the team at Ruddocks to ensure it translated accurately across the digital platform.”  David added, “we had two distinct challenges; one was to ensure the colour palate held its integrity online, and the brand or components of the brand were not revealed before the official launch.” 

According to the two agencies, the key to getting the launch right was working in close collaboration to meet tight deadlines whilst ensuring the online and offline marketing complemented each other in every way.

The website is modern, in-depth and although content-heavy, uses key vibrant imagery complemented by dynamic angled lines and clear areas of white space, to break up information into sections and make it easy to understand and a pleasure to access.

Both agencies were commissioned after an official tender and competitive pitch process in which both companies saw off stiff competition from other larger agencies.  Once the contracts were awarded it was imperative for the agencies and the team at British Steel to work closely together to meet exacting deadlines.
